Sorry I've been slow in updating the blog, but I've been working on my literature collection and will have a more current listing soon. My collection is growing and as of today I have most (but not all) of the 2008 model year brochures. As soon as I update my listing I will post it and hopefully some photos!

The 2008 model year will unofficially start after September 3. In the USA, that's Labor Day, and the new model year unofficially starts after labor day, when most of the mew model year brochures start appearing on the racks. More and more 2008 brochures are appearing on the racks: more Ford, all Mercury, most Lincoln, all Chevrolet, all Buick, some GMC, but still haven't seen the new Cadillac brochures or the Pontiac. The Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep brochures still are a no-show.

Now that I figured out how to post photos, I will take pics of the new brochures and post them for all to see.

The 2008 model year marks the 39th year I've eagerly collected car brochures. If you haven't started to collect, I suggest you start. It's a inexpensive fun hobby.

2008 Model year starting to appear

Although it's early, the 2008 model year literature is starting to appear in the literature racks at your local automobile dealerships. I have a listing here of what I already have, and more appears every time I stop at the dealership. There may be more out on the racks than what I have here, but it will end up in my collection soon.

I have to admit that I'm not happy with the 2008 Chevrolet brochures. They went "cheap" this model year and cut back on the size and quality of their brochures. Guess we have been spoiled by the nice catalogs of past years, but at least they aren't as cheap as the literature of the 1970's and early 1980's.

Ford, with all their money problems, have nice catalogs for their cars this year. Especially the Mustang brochure......make sure you pick up a couple of these beauties as they won't be around for long when they're in the racks and salespeople won't be handing these out generously. Ugh....automobile salespeople. I'm going to have to comment about them sometime soon.

I'm going to have to write a post all about exotic literature. For years I used to ignore it mostly, but I have really grown to love it and now don't mind spending big money on it. Some people may think you're crazy to spend $50+ on a new car brochure, but addictions don't come cheap!

Literature collecting is just like hunting without the gun.

Transition Period: Closing out the 2007 model year and starting with the 2008 model year

For the past three days I've been filing away my 2007 model year collection. It's a big task: every year I wonder where I will put it all and think I've run out of room. It looks like when the 2008 model year comes to an end I'll have to buy another large heavy duty shelf. I buy shelving that can hold 1,500 lbs (680 kg) since the boxes are so heavy and each shelf holds 15 boxes.

The end of July is usually what I consider the end of the model year and by mid-August the new brochures start filling the racks in the showrooms. My friend Dave and I usually go on a long trip, what we call a "literature run" through various States and towns, visiting only the car dealerships and gather what we need for our collections. This year we went early: the second week of July and went to Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago, Milwaukee and lots of other towns and ended up at the large car show and swap meet in Iola, Wisconsin. We didn't need much in the way of domestic literature to complete our collections so we focuses mostly on imported cars, revisions and exotic car brochures.

This year I went hog-wild on exotic car brochures and spent probably too much $$. My purchases were brochures on Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Maserati, Bugatti, Lotus, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin. These luxury pieces I gathered during the year and will be used for more than one model year. For example The Bentley Arnage / Azure super deluxe brochures state certian colours will be available in the 2008 model year, same for Rolls-Royce, etc. To complete my exotic car collection I suspect I need only two pieces: the 9"x12.5" 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 & LP 640 Roadster 100 page hardback brochure and the Aston Martin Vanquish 50 page catalog. Luckily I have contacts at both dealerships so all I have to do is save up a few dollars and buy them.

One of the new brochures I'm looking for is the 2008 Bentley Brooklands hardback cc. I was told this will be avalable in August 2007, so it's just around the corner. This will be a very brochure difficuly to obtain due to the exclusivity of the car (550 made) and the dealerships unwillingness to hand these out. (For those readers who don't know what "cc" means, it's color catalog; I use abbreviations like that. cf = color folder)

Some 2008 brochures are appearing on the racks already. Buick only has three vehicles for 2008; Lucerne, LaCrosse and Enclave and all three of their brochures are out now. Same for Mercury; all of their "regular" showroom cc's are out. About half of the Ford cc's are available. I'm stopping at the local General Motors dealership two times a week now checking out the literature racks already.

The dealerships in my town consist of: a General Motors which sells Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Chevrolet, GMC and Saturn. It has good literature racks. Another sells Ford, Lincoln & Mercury with good racks. Another sells Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep & Toyota with "so-so" racks. There are stand alone dealerships for Honda/Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Hyundai. I have to travel to the next larger town for Hummer, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, Kia, Mazda.

For the remaining marques I have to travel to Minneapolis and Chicago for Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, etc. It keeps me running!

Still haven't tried to post photos but I'll give that a try later on.

2007 Canadian & American Motorcycle brochure listing

I'm back from a trip to Minneapolis, Chicago & Milwaukee. We also visited the huge car show in Iola, Wisconsin. Everyone that has ever attended that event knows what I mean when I was it's H-U-G-E!.

We visited dealerships on the trip and managed to get quite a few new brochures, especially from marques that are very hard to get. Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Jaguar & BMW dealerships were all generous with their brochures.

The 2008 model year is starting, with 2008 brochures starting to appear in the racks. I will be informing as time goes on what is available.

I plan on adding several more listings and also memories of car brochure gathering at dealerships. Any other suggestions?
